POV: Your mate showing you music they like

Like most people, at around the age of 12 I began to explore different genres of music; of course I was very much into the stuff that was being played around me; classical, Peruvian folk music, jazz, pop and early to mid 90’s mainstream rock, grunge and what have you but I had yet to develop my own personal taste in music.

I was brought into more underground music by my cousins who shook their heads at my teeny bopper phase and were like “here kid, listen to this I think you’ll like it” These were bands like Toe to Toe, Dead Kennedys, The Offspring, Cradle of Filth and Slayer – I cannot tell you how valuable this was to me as a young teen in a fairly strict household who was probably way too sheltered. By sharing their music with me, my cousins had opened doors which allowed me to expand my musical horizons.

It lead me to look into more underground music and find sounds and sentiments which resonated with my little weird heart which eventually lead me to the goth community which I am happy to be a part of.

Last year Bloodywood; an Indian folk/nu-metal core band which I absolutely adore, released their first song of their upcoming debut album Rakshak. Urged by my friends in the Rajposting community to record my reaction to Gaddar upon release at stupid AM Eora (Sydney) time, I ended up doing my very first reaction video.

I was utterly blown away by the response from all those who watched my reaction and I was reminded of my teenage years when we’d hang out in my room and take turns putting a cd or cassette on the stereo. There is something so special about sharing music, even if you are rubbish at music theory and explaining why something is so good, the smiles and genuine enjoyment is contagious.

So when Bloodywood released Aaj last month I wanted to share again and did another video, the sheer joy I felt at doing so and all the positive feedback helped me put aside my concerns that I’m not the most knowledgable when it comes to discussing music, especially a genre as highly debated as Goth and so yesterday I published 10 Goth Songs That Got Me Through 2021 .

What do you think of my thumbnail skills?

Regardless of wether this video does well or not as well as the Bloodywood reaction ones (which I will never stop doing) I feel like I have finally found the direction I want to take my YouTube Channel.

As a minimalist I feel uncomfortable doing hauls, or producing something DIY only for filming purposed. I like doing things which gel with my ethics of low material consumption, resisting consumerism, championing independent artists and supporting the communities which have given me so much joy.

So dear reader thank you for taking the time out to read this. I’ll see you on the internets.
