Most “Monthly Favorites” videos on YouTube show case favorite products and feel like some kind of advertisement; which in a way they might be. This isn’t to say that this is a bad thing. I often enjoy watching these types of videos to live vicariously through others and I had thought of doing a similar series except of one little issue. I don’t really shop or often have new physical items for my “show and tell”.
(Quick side note; how much fun was show and tell in primary school?)
As a minimalist I’m more inclined to talk about experiences than things, so I thought why not incorporate that into my videos and share my favorite song/artist, night out/event and random bit of goth content of the month?
Another aim of this is to shift the spotlight from the aesthetic aspects of goth to the music and community which has so enriched my life for almost 20 years. Truthfully the friendships, great nights out and tunes which colour my life are what give my aesthetic choices meaning not the other way around, which is why I want to talk about it.
I wasn’t the most consistent when uploading last year and a huge part of that was a lack of direction and ideas; however with this series of videos I feel like the only way I will run out of something to say will be to stop participating in the Goth scene; a very unlikely scenario.
