Is Goth dead in Sydney?

One question that I often come across is “Is the Sydney Goth scene dead?”; I’m honestly surprised that despite Lock Out laws and the misunderstandings of what Goth entails it is still clinging to life in the Harbor city.

Last October the most Goth thing ever possibly happened; Sisters of Mercy played on Halloween night, I wasn’t in attendance but according to those that went along it was packed and they absolutely went off.

Earlier in 2019 Drab Majesty played a sold out show. In September the Annual Goth Picnic had an awesome turnout with a whole host of new faces.

Despite beloved Sanctuary being made to depart the scene due to a lack of venue, new club nights like Tech Noir have taken up the mantle. The Witching Hour is also due to return to Sydney this January for more gothy dancey dance shenanigans.

Hopefully with the lock out laws being lifted this month we will start to enjoy more clubs and opportunities to go out and have good times with our friends.

So is Goth dead here? No, if anything it’s undead…undead…undead…undead.
